Thermaltake extended its recently released Smart DPS G family of PSUs with the new Toughpower DPS G Platinum series. These power supplies share some features with the other DPS G power supplies previously released but are targeted at higher-end consumers who demand extremely efficient components.
The Toughpower DPS G Platinum series consists of three power supplies rated at 850 W, 1050 W and 1200 W. Similar to the other Smart DPS G PSUs, these units contain a 32-bit Microcontroller Unit (MCU) which is capable of monitoring various aspects of the system and gives users advanced control over their power supply.
The MCU will provide statistical information on the efficiency and power consumption of the PSU. If the power supply notices a potential problem, such as a heat issue, it is also capable of reducing its power output in order to avoid a catastrophic system failure. The information from the MCU is uploaded periodically (every six hours), and you can access it by using a smartphone and PC applications. You can also get to it online.
The Toughpower DPS G Platinum series contains a few shared features between the three new units, including a fully modular cable design and 80 Plus Platinum efficiency certification. Depending on load, these power supplies are rated to operate at up to 91 percent efficiency. To help achieve this rating, they exclusively use high-quality Japanese capacitors and feature a 140 mm fan to keep the PSU cool. All of the power supplies also feature a 7-year warranty.
