Nokia DC-50 Portable Wireless Charging Plate Hits UK

While it may not be the norm yet, more and more smartphones are coming with support for wireless charging. Nokia got on the wireless charging trend early, and the company offers a range of accessories for wirelessly charging your smartphone. Now, the latest addition is coming to the UK.

The DC-50 wireless charging plate was announced at Nokia World earlier this year. The company promised a global launch in Q4 and today brought news that the DC-50 is headed for the UK and the rest of Europe. Pricing offered at Nokia World was $99, which is just under £61.50 by today’s exchange rates. But, of course, UK customers aren’t getting that price. Instead, Nokia is pricing this guy at £80. Elsewhere in Europe you’re looking at €89 (around£75/$120).

The DC-50 uses Qi wireless charging technology and weighs 150g. It measures 134 mm x 69 mm or 5.3 x 2.7 inches and is available in white, blue yellow, or red. It’s micro-USB, and will actually charge any Qi-enabled smartphone.

Unfortunately, despite Nokia’s plans to launch globally before the end of the year, it will be early 2014 before the DC-50 will in available outside of Europe.
