Amazon's Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 Now Shipping to UK

A few weeks back, Amazon UK started shipping the Kindle Fire HDX, but the company was only shipping the 7-inch version of Amazon's newest tablet. If you wanted the 8.9-inch model, the good news is that the wait is over. As of this morning, the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 is also shipping from Amazon.co.uk.

Announced in late September, the tablets run Amazon's Fire OS 3.0 'Mojito' and are both based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 chip clocked to 2.2 GHz, Adreno 330 graphics, 2 GB of RAM, and a battery that promises up to 11 hours of mixed use and up to 17 hours of reading. The 8.9 inch model has a 2560 x 1600 resolution (339 ppi), an HD camera on the front and an 8MP camera on the back. This camera includes an LED flash, Electronic Image Stabilization, and a wide-aperture 5P f2.2 lens. The 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX features a 1920 x 1200 resolution (323 ppi) and a front-facing HD camera.

The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HDX is priced at £329 with special offers/£339 without (16 GB), £369 with special offers/£379 without (32 GB), and £409 with special offers/£419 without (64 GB). The 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX costs £199 (16 GB), £229 (32 GB), or £259 (64 GB). If you want to drop the special offers promo and ditch Amazon's ads, you can expect to pay £209 (16 GB), £239 (32 GB), and £269 (64 GB).
