The UK’s first 4G carrier, EE, has announced that its customers will be the first to benefit from 4G speeds when roaming in France and Spain. This news represents the first in a series of roaming agreements that EE hopes will allow subscribers to roam to all major travel destinations by the end of the year.
If you’re a regular customer or a small business customer, you’ll be able to roam in France and Spain on 4G right away. Business customers won’t have this option just yet, but EE says it’s coming soon. Come summertime, the USA, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands with join France and Spain.
"EE already has the biggest and fastest 4G network in the UK – now we’re also allowing our customers to stay connected on 4G when they’re abroad," said EE CEO Olaf Swantee. "Our customers will be the first to benefit in France and Spain today, with the most popular travel destinations to follow in the coming months. Whether it’s working on the move, social networking, using maps, or just finding a great place to eat in an unknown city, our customers will now benefit from the same superfast and reliable mobile experience at home and overseas."
Of course, there’s no such thing as a free lunch, and roaming on 4G isn’t free either. EE offers roaming data bundles from £3 and up and customers on 4GEE Extra tariffs can add unlimited roaming minutes and texts for select countries to their plans.
