DivX video code goes open-source
Developers of the video compression technology, DivX, have decided to make their product open-source. Loathed by the movie industry, the product simplifies and accelerates the trading of high-quality video files over networks. According to a spokesman for Project Mayo, the company created by the DivX founders, "The goal with Open DivX is to achieve ubiquity on a wide variety of platforms and a wide variety of devices."
