Amazon's virtual currency has arrived in the United Kingdom. Amazon Coins first launched in the United States back in May and can be used to purchase software for the Kindle Fire and in the Amazon Appstore. The virtual currency covers apps, games, and in-app purchases. Users will also get a discount on the currency if they buy in bulk (up to 10 percent).
"Our customers have enjoyed purchasing apps, games and in-app items since the Amazon Appstore store launched last year and we’ve received great feedback about innovative features like Free App of the Day," Amazon said in a statement today. "Now, customers in the UK can also purchase a broad range of Appstore content using Amazon Coins. We are continuously working to enhance customer benefits and Coins is a great new feature that that we know they will love."
To celebrate today’s launch (and to push people toward trying Amazon Coins as soon as possible no doubt) Amazon is giving every Kindle Fire user 400 Amazon Coins, which is equivalent for £4. These will be deposited to your account automatically, you don't have to do anything.
