Zhone Technologies Inc. Acquires NEC Eluminant
NEC Eluminant Technologies Inc., has announced that Zhone Technologies, Inc has acquired it. NEC Eluminant is a manufacturer of devices used by telecommunications carriers in their networks to provide high-speed Internet access over fiber-optic cable. NEC Eluminant, a privately held company, was spun off from the American affiliate of Japanese NEC Corporation in 1998. Zhone is a privately held manufacturer of equipment used in the telecom industry that works much the same as NEC Eluminant's, but instead relies on copper wires. Eluminant's name will change to Zhone. Eluminant reported revenue in 2000 of $105 million, while Zhone's reported revenue was $60.5 million in its first nine months of 2000. Further details regarding the acquisition were not available.
