YouTube to give users a cut of ad revenue

by - source: Tom's Hardware UK

Oh dear. The last thing video bloggers need is encouragement.

YouTube has announced that it is to bring it’s partner program to the UK. The YouTube Partner Program offers YouTubers a chance to earn money from their videos.

Really, if someone is willing to make the Leave Britney Alone video for free, think of the trash that will appear if we offer them cash ?

By signing up for the partner program, users can earn a share of the ad revenues garnered from the ads shown next to the videos they’ve posted.

A YouTube spokesperson told Tomshardware,

"Finding a way to compensate users for their creativity and their role in building YouTube is of the utmost importance to the team at YouTube. These original content creators will now have the chance to reap rewards from their work and receive the same promotional benefits afforded to YouTube’s other professional content partners."

This service is already available in the US and some users claim to be earning thousands of dollars a month from their videos.

"The most popular partners in the program — those who are regularly producing videos with over 1M views — are earning several thousand dollars per month."

Apparently, there are some Joe Soaps out there actually earning a living from YouTube.

Well for some, eh ?
