Yahoo to rival Google with unlimited e-mail storage

Sunnyvale (CA) - In yet another attempt to steal users back from Google, Yahoo has announced that it will begin offering unlimited e-mail storage for free later this spring.

Yahoo upped its e-mail capacity from 100 MB to 1 GB two years ago. That’s more than enough for most users, but it still falls short of Google’s Gmail, which has steadily increased its capacity to reach more than 2.5 GB.

Yahoo will increase its capacity again this May, marking itself as the first major e-mail provider to offer unlimited Web storage for free. The initial rollout will begin with the 10th anniversary of Yahoo, which first appeared online in May 1997.

Current Yahoo ! Mail users will be the first to have access to the infinite inbox capacity, which will take several weeks to complete. "As much as we’d like to just flip a switch and "unlimit" everyone on the same day, we’ll be rolling this out over a few months to facilitate a smooth transition."
