XP Launches, All give Praise, Some Give Free Stuff
Yes, yesterday Microsoft launched Windows XP and nobody was surprised since so much info was given out before the release. This week, just about every hardware and software company put out a press release saying that they were "XP-compatible." Some companies, like PNY Technologies and Symantec Corp. even announced they would give away free products if you upgraded to Microsoft's Next Big Thing. If you buy Windows XP Professional you're eligible to receive a PNY 256MB PC-133 SDRAM memory module free after mail-in rebate and Symantec's new Norton AntiVirus 2002 software from Best Buy Company, CompUSA, Office Depot, and Staples retail stores in the U.S. Making an educated guess based on previous versions of Windows, I figure you'll need the extra RAM. I'd also like to thank Microsoft on behalf of all of my freelance writer friends. Each of those press releases cost about a thousand bucks when they're not done in-house and there were buckets of them that pretty much all said the same thing: "We're compatible with Windows XP." Easy money.
