Xilinx, the main force behind United Microelectronics Corporation's (UMC) 53% sales growth in the second quarter, may now be cutting back on orders to the Taiwanese foundry by 10-15%, reported chief semiconductor market analyst Andrew Lu of Salomon Smith Barney on July 22. As Xilinx is UMC's second-largest customer, UMC should feel the impact, Lu said.
