Xerox Park, Princeton and Rice confirm SDMI hack
Researchers from Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), Princeton University and Rice University say they have broken all four watermarking schemes in a technology challenge put forth by the music industry-funded Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI). This is despite previous accusations of slander against the Salon.com writer who first reported that the effort to help control distribution of music files had failed within weeks of going public. The team's claim, while not affirmed by SDMI, is based on tests posted on SDMI's Website. A member of the team also said he would not be surprised if others had broken the watermark protections as well.
