X3 - new technology for digital cameras
The BBC has an interesting story about a new chip from a company called Faveon, the X3.
"I don't believe film is going to survive," said photography journalist, Ingrid Krampe, who attended the official launch of the chip in Orlando, Florida, US, earlier this week.
As the BBC article points out, there are over a billion film cameras in the world so, there's a long way to go, but Faveon is a start-up worth watching. The X3 uses image sensors that consist of three layers of photo detectors embedded in silicon having the ability to capture three colors at each single pixel location. There is an analogy since traditional film has layers that absorb different colors giving sharper images and colors.
