WWF body slams cybersquatter

The World Wrestling Federation has won the first international arbitration in a so-called "cybersquatting" dispute.

An arbitrator for the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva ruled that a California resident who registered the Internet address worldwrestlingfederation.com has "no rights or legitimate interests" to the name, and that he acted in bad faith by offering to sell it to the WWF "at significant profit".

The WIPO, a United Nations agency aimed at protecting trademarks, patents and copyrights, said it already has been asked to act in five other domain name disputes.
