World of Warcraft Blamed for Porn's Decline

By - Source: Tom's Hardware US

"The games are competition for porn. Fans jerk off to porn and are done, but you can keep playing a game." - Aiden

The porn industry, said to be recession proof and almost always on the cutting edge of technology, is now falling on hard times due to the emergence of its once greatest ally – the internet.

Believe it or not, online gaming such as World of Warcraft is named as one of the Daily Beast's top five reasons that porn-for-profit is dying. Industry insider Aiden points out that both porn and online gaming are both forms of entertainment that appeal to similar crowds.

"It is all entertainment that you are getting involved in the same way as porn is entertainment," said Aiden. "I won’t say everyone, but a lot of people in the industry play videogames. The games are competition for porn. Fans jerk off to porn and are done, but you can keep playing a game."

Aiden, who manages his wife Belladonna's website, is no stranger to spending time in the online gaming world. "Yeah, my wife and I occasionally argue about the amount of time I spend playing," he admits.

Industry legend Ron Jeremy expressed his dislike for the internet, saying in no uncertain terms, "I just hate the internet in general."

The reason for Jeremy's hate is because the internet is threatening an industry which he made over 2,000 movies for. "People can download stuff for free these days, so why the heck are they going to buy it? The only ones making money out of porn are the novelty companies," Jeremy said.

I really cannot agree with this. Games and porn have coexisted for a long time without killing each other off.
I would place the blame on the availability of huge amounts of free porn on the internet. And let's face it, there's a LOT of it. Why buy porn when you can get it for free? It's the same with music and video downloads. There has to be some kind of worthy perk to buying the original.

The world is a changed place when it comes to sex, women these days are far more open when it comes to sex and sexuality. Gone are the days when you had to go online to watch a chick with various falic shaped fruits and vegtables and a can of squirty cream.
