Wireless Safety Net For 2.5 and 3G Mobile Devices
If high-tech consumers are nervous about sending personal data over the Internet, how likely is it that they will be willing to shoot info such as credit card information through the airwaves via a wireless connection? Texas Instruments thinks it has a solution that will give wireless users more confidence - that is, if Joe Sixpack can make any sense at all of TI's marketing jargon. TI says that its new wireless security library will provide carriers and handset manufacturers hardware and software tools that will give consumers secure 2.5 and 3G wireless services. Components of the library include memory protection, advanced public and private key encryption, virus screening, firewall protection, and fingerprint recognition. Sounds pretty fancy, but only time will tell whether consumers will participate in scary-sounding applications like wireless commerce and wireless banking.
