Wireless web users most interested in other types of consumer electronics

by - source: Tom's Hardware

According to a report released by research firm Ipsos Insight, users of wireless web services are more likely to purchase other consumer electronics devices than users of dial-up and broadband services. The survey among 1044 adult Internet users found that 29 percent of wireless users owned a handheld gaming system while only 23 percent of broadband users and 23 percent of dial-up users said they play on a portable device.

Similarly, digital cable TV is more likely to be found among the wireless community (47 percent as compared to 40 and 21 percent). Comparable differences were found when it came to MP3 players, notebook computers, wireless home networks and digital video recorders.

The link between wireless web users and interest in advanced consumer electronics, however, may not be that surprising after all : The group of wireless web users still consists mainly of early adopters, which tend to snatch up the newest gadgets. This behavior appears to be confirmed by Ipsos Insight and the answers the firm received when inquiring about planned future purchases : Among the dial-up, broadband and wireless web users, more members of the wireless group said they were interested in flat panel TVs, portable audio players, HDTVs, VoIP services, media servers or handheld gaming systems.
