Blue Screen of Death Goes Black for Windows 8

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

Once you go black...

Ah, the Blue Screen of Death has been a part of the Windows computing experience since the old days of 3.x, surviving today still in Windows 7. There are early signs, though, that Windows 8 could do away with them forever.

Of course, Windows 8 should be the most stable of them all whenever it's released, meaning that users should see fewer crashes than ever. On the chance that they do, it could be a black screen instead of that iconic blue screen.

A forum member on MyDigitalLife noted a new sort of error screen in an unfinished version of Windows 8 that looks like this:

WinRumors noted that it's not unheard of for Microsoft to change the colors of its error screens in the final release. For example, Window Vista beta versions had a red screen of death, which eventually reverted back to blue on the final release.

In any case, the BSoD will still be a BSoD.

What? Oh Noes!
Now people are going to claim previous versions of windows (incl Vista) are much better because the screens were blue and not black when it BSOD'ed

LOL, I didn't know Vista Beta had RSOD! weird.
I hope they improve it to help users determine the cause of the problem.

The only time I see the W7 BSOD is when Trackmania crashes. Hopefully I'll never see the black one of W8...

"Your computer needs to restart!"

Why they just don't type:

GAME OVER

Buy a new computer and a new copy of Windows!

Ha, red screen would send people over the edge with rage.

"It's all your fault. You have messed with it until you broke it like always. Go and read a book like your Dad always told you!"

Ha.

I think that's close to the best message - but how about instead a black screen with "GAME OVER" in large letters, centred on the screen, with a smaller message below saying "You crashed your PC" and giving some possibly useful error message. Below that you have "Play again? y/n" and pressing "y" restarts the computer, pressing "n" just turns it off.

Aye, in my day you knew where you were at with a Blue screen, now these uppity kids with their 'cool' tricks have to go and change everything....
I need retraining to cope with Blackscreens of death,
I'm too old for this.....
