Windows 7 is Finally More Popular Than Vista
Congratulations, Windows 7, as you've passed your predecessor in user share in July.
According to web analytics firm Net Applications, share for Windows 7 was at 14.46, while Windows Vista was at 14.34. This marks the firs time that Windows 7 usage had been greater than that of Windows Vista, perhaps a sign of those on the older OS upgrading or getting new machines.
Windows XP, however, remained the dominant Microsoft OS with 61.9 percent of the share – more than all other Windows operating systems combined.
Microsoft still has a stranglehold on the operating system market, though, with 91.3 percent.
Apple, despite its huge success on mobile devices, experienced another slide in Mac OS X for the fourth month straight, which now sits at 5 percent.
Amongst hardcore gamers who use Steam, however, Windows 7 64-bit is the most popular OS. For July it captured 30.32 percent of the market, just squeaking by Windows XP 32-bit at 30.17 percent.
The distant third and fourth on Steam went to Windows Vista 32-bit at 13.92 percent and Windows 7 32-bit at 11.54 percent.

After vista's bad reputation it's not that suprising (vista was fine for me though), but still nice to see some progress and less disgruntlement.
-Damn the spam on here lol
Actually, Vista wasn't bad at all after the updates were released. I've been using it for years without any issues.
Vista worked yes, but compared to windows 7 vista was and still is a dog. What lets vista down was the lack of proper driver support at launch and bad memory management. Win7 ultimate x64 runs on my AMD64 FX55 with 4gb DDR around 40-50% faster than vista ever did.
Vista? What is Vista? Vista should be called a internal experiment used as a stepping stone to Windows 7. Everyone should forget Vista existed.
There's XP and you upgrade to Windows 7. Otherwise you'll downgrade from XP to Vista.
So its Windows 98 < Windows Me < Windows Vista < Windows XP < Windows 7 =))
No, we should never forget - ME was a warning never to be repeated, yet it was...
both vista and win7 look good now but i want my file browser back

Agreed, its launch was terrible. But after a few months, when enough updates and drivers were launched, Vista worked just fine. Windows 7 is indeed faster than Vista on my PC, but nowhere near 40-50%. Just the speed boost you'd expect from a new generation, nothing more.
I'm not saying Vista was perfect, far from. But it was just a product that was launched before third party hardware and software makers had a chance to adapt. If they had collaborated better and waited a month or two longer, nobody would call Vista a disaster. It just got a bad name due to its poor launch.
Vista was not that bad, but the version that came with my HP laptop was SLOW AS HELL!!! But when I installed an original version it worked ok.
Vista just felt ugly. It always worked fine for me, but never felt right.
I much prefer 7. Hate XP, it slows my productivity down SO MUCH at work. v
