Windows 7 Build 7201 Leaks Onto P2P Networks

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

It's jumped a number!

The release of Windows 7 is finally in sight. Microsoft said earlier this week that the new OS will be on store shelves on October 22, and to expect an RTM date of sometime in the second half of July.

From beta to release candidate, Windows 7 moved from build 7000 series to 7100 series. Now information from unofficial channels indicate that the software development team is now working on builds in the 7200 series, though it’s unknown if there’s any significance behind the number bump.

Build 7201 is now available through unofficial sources, such as BitTorrent networks, in both 32- and 64-bit flavors and carries a build tag of “6.1.7201.0.winmain win7ids.090601-1516.”

Microsoft has said that the build 7100 that is still publically distributed is feature complete, so don’t expect significant changes in the 7201 release other than better driver support and slight tweaks.

For those of Us that are using Win 7,Why doesnt M/S upgrade the existing
build?(ie)..7100 to 7200 so on.
Why would they want 3 or 4 different builds out there?
I just dont get it.

I'm loving Windows 7 RC (64-bit), I've just built my new PC with an ASUS P6T Deluxe mobo, Intel i7 920 CPU, 6GB OCZ Memory and a XFX Geforce 9800 GX2.

Couldn't install some of the mobo drivers/software coz they aren't supportive of Windows 7, however I've had no issues whatsoever with hardware and Windows 7.

nVidia beta drivers work a treat, I've installed some software, WinRAR 64-bit, Firetrust Mailwasher, Office 2007 and Messenger Live and had no issues whatsoever. I've even been playing GTA IV flawlessly, the graphics are amazing.

Windows 7 is what Vista should've been, I hate Vista with a passion, my friend had Vista on her laptop and it's been nothing but a pain in the backside, people are going to love Windows 7 when it's released the retail.

@shoota

I agree with you. I don't know what all the bitching has been about. I'm running Vista x64 Ultimate with SP2 and I've never had a problem with anything. I remember people bitching about XP too when it first came out and they refused to budge from Windows 98 because XP wouldn't recognise their printer or scanner etc. Same thing is happening with Vista.

Well I hate it (and flaky Office 2007) with like passion, despite having Quad Core (Q9450), 8GB of OCZ Reaper RAM, 2TB Storage, dedicated 4GB SD Card to boost performance further and it still is not an enjoyable experience; infuriating (such as when it uses all 8GB of RAM to run a web browser, mail client, anti-virus and then tells you it cannot run video in media player because resources are low!) and 8mths into the original install, increasingly unreliable despite minimum software installed and no dodgy web browsing or email.
