QOTD: Will You Be Running Win 7 Tomorrow?

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

Ready to wipe Vista away and upgrade to Windows 7?

Tomorrow is the BIG day when Microsoft officially releases Windows 7 to the mass market. While some of you may have already been running TechNet or early sold educational editions, this is the big splash that many are expecting to revitalize the industry.

Some of you may have purchased a new PC over the last few months and qualify for a free upgrade (which, it turns out, might not be completely free). For the rest of you, especially you DIY folk, you'll have to purchase your Windows 7 separately just like any other component of your machine.

We'd like to know from you today: Will you be a Windows 7 owner tomorrow? If so, will you waste no time and install/upgrade as soon as you get back to your PC?

I'm torn between doing a fresh Win7 installation straight away (from Xp) or waiting a week or so before doing it. There's bound to be some release day madness which I'd like to miss out on.

Yep. My pre-order was delivered Monday and I've installed my desktop PC today, and will do my HTPC tomorrow. I avoided the whole mess with Vista after Microsoft's agents failed to honour my upgrade from XP x64 to Vista when it was released. XP is showing its age - not supporting larger RAM footprints, so I have been in the Windows7 Beta/RC community. The pre-order was considerably cheaper than the proposed retail upgrade price so I ordered 2.

Yep and No. I preordered a W7, I don't know when will ship arrive as my courier is not Royal Mail so no early W7 for me. And once I get it, I will be waiting for my rig to arrive.

No. There's too much to move. I'll be moving, yes, but at the weekend most likely, when I've got time to transfer things smoothly and carefully. Thankfully the small 150GB install partition I use hasn't got too much cruft on it, so most things should just work...

I gave up on Vista and went back to XP. Then someone told me about UBUNTU and I haven't looked back since. Bye bye Windows.

Why the fuck has this poster been given minuses? It is a legitimate point to make. Vista was toss and made me switch to Ubuntu too. The post is pertinent. If you like Ubuntu stick to it. It's open source and awesome.

Windows 7 looks great but I will still use Ubuntu as my primary OS too.

Shouldn't this read ready to wipe XP and install windows 7? I have one on order, will not shed one tear for XP.

I'm happy with the RC until it runs out. Then I'll probably just go back to vista and go up to win7 when I get a new computer. Vista doesn't bug me 'cause Fedora is my primary OS.

Amazon shipped it to my house this morning and I've already installed it.

I did a pair of fresh installs with both of my copies of it.

I'm happy with it already, especially since now I have the 32bit edition on my laptop instead of the 64bit. (The tower is using 64 still)

Linux sucks (I have a job on at the moment, and I have to work with a Linux box, The install process was quick and sweet, then it was down hill from there very quickly, installing sql and editing php files was very crap).
Win-7 is a good step forward, Microsoft now really need to work on IE8 fixes, and Clean MS-Word up a bit, I still use Google to help my spelling when Word can't figure it out, and I use CorelDraw when Word fails to manage more complex layouts.

I will get to tomorrow, but I am to busy to install it, once I have my project finished I will install it. So maybe a week or two.

Been running Win7 RC since release as had many problems with Vista.
Found browser probs with 7 and for some reason seems a little sluggish compared to Vista at this momment in time.
Since the release of better drivers for both Vista and 7 (lots of freezing in games) I havent had any problems with Vista at all so will delay purchase of 7 both due to cost and want of a better rig to take advantage of touch features of 7.
Maybe change my mind as the weeks roll on depending on feedback from users discovering bugs and flaws on OS.

I've been running Win 7 RC 7100 since it was released on my Server and HTPC and I loved it, My 1st copy of Win 7 Retail (I Pre-Ordered 2 for £49.99 each) arrived on the 19th and the other should come soon enough. I've installed it on my HTPC and it's running like clockwork, slight glitch when I ran Windows update and stupidly allowed it to update my Network drivers, it screwed them up on re-boot, but all I had to do was pick the later version from the list and force it to use them instead then hid that update to stop it happening again.

Apart from that I can't wait to upgrade my Server to have it done and dusted.

For anyone waiting for bugs to be ironed out like Vista, you don't need to worry, Microsoft, along with the support of the Beta/RC community have solved any issues, well for me anyways.

I also upgraded my Internet Security to AVG 9 from 8.5 by just downloading and installing it from AVG and it worked with my 8.5 key, It's so much more Win 7 friendly, it even easily accepts networking and homegroup. So much better AVG, well done, I was considering switching to another Internet Security company till I tried AVG 9.

I am forced to use Win 7 at work (been running the RC for months) and there is no way way its going onto my home rig. Its basically just vista, and while some of the problems have been sorted there are just as many new ones i have discovered.

I dont want to go to the libraries folder when i click on Windows Explorer

I want the classic start menu!!!!

Still crashes just like any other version of windows

sometimes it won't connect to the printers on the network for no reason then i have to restart.

slower than XP

There are a few good points though:

Boots very fast

erm... thats it...

I'll probably wait a year or so until i HAVE to upgrade, until then im sticking with XP, does exactly what you want it to do, with no problems.

No, I am not upgrading as quite frankly I see no need to.

I have a stable, lean and tidy XP Pro install that works.
