Windows 7 Retail Boxes Showing Up in Stores

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

It's here! You just can't buy it yet.

It's just two and a half weeks until Windows 7 officially hits stores worldwide, overwriting Windows Vista as the main operating system sold on PCs. The launch of Windows 7 is no big secret, and some OEMs are even allowed to sell systems with the full OS early.

With such a big release, Microsoft is naturally shipping off product to retailers as you read this. In fact, one of Microsoft's first retail shipments have already hit stores.

Engadget was sent a photo from an unnamed electronics store in Chicago showing a brown box with a red sticker that reads "STREET DATE Do Not Sell or Display This Product Before October 22, 2009."

So there it is, the real deal right before your eyes.

Not really excited.

I've been on 7 since it first beta'd. To me it's just another format and reinstallation I have to waste 0-5 hours on.

I'm not exctied but I'll be happy to finally be using a release version when my 2 pre-ordered copies turn up.

I must say how much better Windows 7 is over Vista and I liked Vista.

It really irritated me no end how many people I know who wouldn't even install Vista because they "Heard" it was rubbish, yeah, it was for the first 6 months but that was much more to do with lazy companies not getting their fingers out and releasing decent drivers for Vista, even though Microshaft had given them plenty of notice.

It has trully amazed me how many of these same nay sayers have Pre-Ordered Windows 7!?!?! Microshaft, if your reading this, give your next version for free for 6 months then charge a fair price £49.95 and you'll have people buying it in their droves!!!

"Microshaft, if your reading this, give your next version for free for 6 months then charge a fair price"

i think they did that with Win 7 i.e. the beta + if pre ordered its onlt £15 more than that (because they can) and i think people realy are going to be buying it in their droves.
