QOTD: Did You Preorder Windows 7?
Windows 7 upgrades were on cheap for a limited time only. Did you get yours?
Last Saturday was the closing day for Microsoft's Windows 7 preorder program, representing what could be the last chance to grab a Home Premium or Professional license at half price or less.
Last month, when Microsoft announced retail pricing for Windows 7, it also rolled out a preorder program that offered a significant discount that would run from June 26 to July 11. The special offer from Microsoft prices the Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade at $49.99 – a huge savings from the usual price of $119.99. Those looking for the Professional version can get for half price at $99.99 as part of the deal.
Microsoft said that quantities would be limited, and that it'd be limited to around the same number of Windows Vista licenses sold at retail in its first year. That means that Microsoft is aiming to break the previous generation’s sales record before Windows 7 is even released.
While some stores sold out of the discounted upgrades, the virtual stock wasn't completely depleted, meaning that Microsoft hasn't broken any sales records yet. (Though, once it does, expect Microsoft to make a big deal about it.)
Nevertheless, we imagine that for most of you the chance to buy a Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade license for $49.99 when the regular price is $119.99 is one that's hard to pass up.
So without further ado, our QOTD is: did you preorder Windows 7? If so, which SKU? And if you didn't preorder, tell us why!

No. My stripped down Vista install has DX10 for games, and Linux can do everything else I need an OS for. Windows 7 has nothing I want, why would I spend time and money on it?
They would literally have to pay me to install Windows 7.
no - i didint - i would have and tried my best to do so but im not in america so i acutally couldnt buy it - a real shame - i try not to give Microsoft Money but this time i was literally slapping them in the face with the cash - but nope - they wouldnt let me buy it or take my money - they missed their chance - the only way i was gonna even think about getting win7 was at a price like that (200NZD) now they wont ever see my money until the price is back at that price and ill be sticking with XP until it does
No. The pre-order discount is yet to start here in the UK. Should start tomorrow in fact, if I'm not mistaken. These are for the E editions though, thanks to the EU feeling like making some more quick money, and eliminating IE's only purpose, to download another browser. Have to say, those discount prices are actually looking pretty reasonable (though once again, we see the $ sign merely changed to £ when they convert the price). Overall, I'm still tempted to get a copy while the discount lasts. Probably will be Home Premium as that's all I need really.
No pre-order options for Australia yet!!
I tried my hardest to order a copy but my mate in the US couldn't get his credit card verified on the microsft website. I've never seen a company actually validate the credit card address against the delivery address. Considering the price at realease in Aus will be $200 just for the home upgrade version it's just a joke. I could have got it from the US for AU$70 after the exchange rate kicked in. Would have been a bargain, but now I probably wont spend the extra $130 to get a copy of it. Shame, cause I love the RC!
I like XP - why would I want to change? I don't have a need for DX 10.1, and as far as I can see that would be the only possible reason to "upgrade".
I want Ultimate Edition i get no bonus for preordering that.
No because this is the European Tom's...
No, I wanted ultimate and not an "upgrade" version, you cannot use that for doing a clean install...
Will be tomorrow when the offer launches here. As a gamer I know that sooner or later I'm gonna need Win7 to be able to get the most from my expensive hardware. May as well get it at £50 instead of £150. That said I've never regretted getting Vista, I really love the differences between it and XP but the lightweight feel of the Win7 RC is really refreshing.
No because the deal wasn't here.
I'll be buying Ultimate anyway.
yes - Got a friend to order the home version, works out at under £32. I also think i will order one tomorrow for £50, because come November I can easily sell it for £80.
nope, because I am in the UK not the US. Why do we keep getting US related stories on the UK site? Get a grip guys!
Will all your old XP games work?
Or will you have spend more and buy the top version that does XP emulation? utter tosh.
I have one XP prof. license which I got for free when I was studying, and I've been using it since then. I decided it was nice of me to finally buy something from microsoft, and I went with the 7 prof. upgrade. The biggest selling point is finally making the move to 64 bits in windows. I'm rocking 8GB of ram in linux, but can barely use 3 in XP
