Windows 7 Usage Passes All Versions of Mac OS X
Windows 7 users outnumbering those on Macs.
The overwhelming majority of the market uses Microsoft Windows, so it should come as no surprise that Windows usage this past weekend was higher than that of Mac OS X. The interesting stat, however, was that Windows 7 usage surpassed all versions of Mac OS X combined.
According to tracking firm Net Applications, Windows 7 commanded an average of 5.07 percent usage last Saturday and Sunday. The growing slice of market share was enough to move past the 5 percent that Apple held across all its current versions of OS X for that week.
"It's safe to say that Windows 7's daily share did peak above Mac's weekly share," said Vince Vizzaccaro, executive vice president at Net Applications, according to Computerworld.
Looking at Window 7's full week average, which started out lower than numbers attained over the weekend, Mac OS X still led ahead by nearly a percentage point. Windows 7's week averaged at 4.15 percent usage. Vizzaccaro believes that the growth of Windows 7 will mean that it'll soon leave OS X behind.
"Certainly, the trend line shows Windows 7 will surpass Mac share soon," he predicted.

Wow, only a month and it's dominating OS X which has years upon years to sell units. Not really a surprise though, considering the actual quality of Windows7, if only they could find a way to put a stop to the Windows Rot
DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS.
Think of 20 PCs you know. Any got Windows 7?
yep at least 3 I know have 7 installed.

PS Balmer is still a twat

Why 20?
Think of 20 PCs you know. Any got Windows 7?
Yep. 3 of mine, my mums, my dads, and two of my mates.
Windows 7 has been great in the few weeks I've been using it. There's no way I'd go back to XP. Most techies I know also give it the thumbs up, even the Unix guys, so MS can't be doing too badly with this one.
I also agree with Gregor - Balmer is still a twat!
So much for Apples claim that the release of Win7 would cause people to buy a brand new Mac instead of going through the 'tedious upgrade', I've had a great experience with Win7 so far, it's a vast upgrade on Xp.
PS Balmer is still a twat
Quoted for truth.
maybe a lot of people will go for the mac still, but all those vista users will buy windows 7 so I would expect nothing less at this time than windows 7 being on more machines, it doesnt make it better or worse, just a fact that there are more pc'c out there than macs to begin with.
I wonder how many systems would run OS X if Apple removed the Mac only install ability, and people could put it on there PCs?
I often think the same thing. I think they would increase market share, maybe even make more money out of it...
Is it me or is this story pointless! Windows 7 would have to be terrible (Vista) to NOT outsell OS X!
I know at least 7 people with 7. I own it twice over alone.
I know of 8 PCs with 7 on them. I have three at home.
Apple could never push OS X out to the 'general PC hardware' world. It would be carnage for them. It's nice to have the luxury of producing an OS that only has to run on a tightly controlled set of hardware. That enables you to have 'out of the box' functionality.
The fact that Windows 99% of the time works with billions of combinations of hardware from Quadro GPUs to $1 Ebay USB trash is often forgotten. It's one of the greatest technical achievements ever.
