Windows 2000 systems to ship early
Major PC makers will offer Windows 2000-equipped systems begining on Jan. 24 - three weeks before Microsoft formally unveils the product.
The new operating system will get an early showing of support in new notebooks and servers from Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Dell and IBM, among others.
The official launch date for Windows 2000 is Feb. 17.
