Winbond's ChipCorder IC
Winbond just let us know about its ChipCorder ISD5216, a low-power, single-chip solution offering digital storage capability and up to 16 minutes of audio record and playback functionality, along with a new integrated voice-band CODEC. The ISD5216 is currently sampling, with volume shipments expected in the fourth quarter of this year. Pricing begins at around $6 for volume quantities. The ISD5216 features a PCM/I2S CODEC that allows it to tap into telephony and digital consumer audio streams that include telephone answering machines for ISDN networks, digital audio broadcast players, and CD players. The IC also provides digital memory capability for microprocessor and microcontroller-based systems. Because the ISD5216 uses solid-state memory, features for message management, including skip forward/back, no rewinding delays, and access to messages, can be put into play. The ISD5216 is available in die form, SOIC, TSOP and PDIP packaging.
