Vendio cuts the ribbon on Widgipedia.com
San Mateo (CA) - After the release of Windows Vista on Tuesday, which gives PC owners the ability to decorate their desktops with "gadgets", Web services company Vendio today launched Widgipedia.com, an Internet resource to the world of widgets and gadgets for multiple computer platforms.
Some of the most common widgets include an embedded clock, alternating picture gallery, and cycling RSS feeds to show news headlines. However, there are well over 1000 widgets that include everything from an eBay search box to a body mass index (BMI) calculator.
The site has been under beta for the past three months, and the official launch today assumedly is to complement the launch of Windows Vista, Microsoft’s first OS platform designed for desktop gadgets, much like the Mac OS X platform that has been powering widgets for over five years.
"The need for a single, comprehensive online presence for the development and distribution of widgets is significant and growing rapidly. After many months of testing, user feedback and ongoing development, Widgipedia.com now is poised to become the ultimate cross-platform widget development and download resource," said site founder and CEO Rodrigo Sales.
The site offers information about gadgets for Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms, including those specially designed for computer enhancement applications, like Yahoo ! Widgets and DesktopX.
