Lenovo adds widescreen models to T-series Thinkpads

Research Triangle Park (NC) - Following the widescreen trend, Lenovo today announced its second Thinkpad model that is now available with a 15.4" widescreen LCD : T60 widescreen models are selling for $1400 and up.

Widescreen displays are increasingly popular and are gaining traction faster than analysts expected even a few months ago. So it’s no surprise that Lenovo introduces more widescreen models in its flagship Thinkpad notebooks. Besides the entry-level Z-series, a 15.4" WXGA widescreen can now be ordered for the T60 mainstream Thinkpad.

The 1280x800 pixel display provides about 30% more pixel space than Lenovo’s regular 15" XGA (1024x768) display, but just about half of the resolution that is offered by 15" UXGA (1600x1200) displays that are available from other manufacturers such as Dell. Lenovo said that it will be offering a WSXGA+ upgrade (1650x1080) as an option for the T60.

At the time of this writing, Lenovo’s website had not been updated with the 15.4" configuration option, but the company mentioned that features of the widescreen T-series include 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. A Core 2 Duo processor T5500 (1.66 GHz) is standard, while the system can also be purchased with the T7600 (2.33 GHz) version. There’s also 1 GB of system memory, an ATI X1300 Mobility Radeon graphics chip, an 80 GB hard drive and a DVD burner. Pricing starts at $1400, according to Lenovo.

Widescreen Z60 notebooks are available from $945.
