White House backs Hollywood against Napster

Representatives of the Clinton administration and the U.S. Copyright office have filed briefs opposing Napster in the landmark copyright case. Nineteen groups representing the entertainment world, plus one software group, also filed urging that the file-sharing system be shut down. Major tech groups have previously filed in favor of Napster and, in a related story, observers note that the entertainment industry has and continues to out-spend and out-lobby the tech industry over this issue.
