Reduced Size Multimedia Card

The MMC Mobile is a miniaturized version of an MMC card (dimensions of 18 x 24 x 1.4 mm, or 0.71 x 0.94 x 0.06 inches). It uses 13 instead of 9 contacts, to accommodate bus widths of 1, 4 or 8 bits, and to enable data transfer rates of over 50 megabytes per second. MMC Mobile devices are backward compatible with conventional MMC cards, however, and a simple adapter lets them plug into MMC slots. That said, an MMC Mobile card is simply clipped onto the adapter, rather than inserted into it, as is the case with MiniSD. Theoretical capacities for MMC Mobile cards max out at 1 GB. We used an MMC Mobile card from Transcend in our tests, to compare its performance and capabilities against other micro cards.
