Web sites violating privacy rules
An Internet security and privacy firm says four popular e-commerce sites are secretly sending the names and addresses of their customers to an online marketing company.
Columbus, Ohio-based Interhack claims Toysrus.com, Babiesrus.com, Lucy.com and Fusion.com are using cookies, invisible tracking images and JavaScript to gather personal information for Coremetrics, which then uses the data to track customer movements and purchases on other sites that use its software.
At least one of the sites, Lucy.com, said it plans to post a new privacy policy with specific disclosures and links to Coremetrics' opt-out page.
