Web directory to launch in May
The ambitious Web directory project funded by Microsoft, IBM, and Ariba is set to open to the public in early May. The directory, meant to act as a kind of yellow pages for locating application services, is based on UDDI, a foundation Web services protocol for business-to-business communications using extensible markup language (XML). After two more draft specifications and about a year, UDDI is to be given to an independent body. The specification has already gained support from dozens of companies including Hewlett-Packard, Oracle and Sun Microsystems.
