Game Review: Civilization IV: Warlords : Executive Overview
Ad

| Genre | Turn-based strategy |
| The plot/hook | It's Civilization with new units, concepts and (most importantly) interesting "Warlords" scenarios |
| Graphics | Same as Civ IV |
| Sound & Voice Acting | Not a whole lot is new, except the usual suspects of unit noises and some themed music for the scenarios. Leonard Nimoy continues to voice the technology quotes; yay! |
| Controls | Point-and-click |
| Interface | Same tried and true Civilization interface. |
| Learning curve | Depends on the scenario and how well versed you are in the art of Civilization. Some scenarios are easier to grasp than others. |
| Mechanics | A real militaristic take on Civilization, with almost everything revolving around the tweaking of attack and defence in the game. Each scenario presents different game mechanics; the Chinese unification features bloodlines instead of religion; the North American colonization is a bitch-ass spiritual thing that'll kick your butt for being last on the pile. |
| AI | Same impeccable and smart Civilization AI. |
| Game Play | Definitely not one for the peace-loving hippies in the audience, this game is all about war and conquest-or just plain pillage and rape, if you happen to be a barbarian or good old Genghis. Scenarios are varied and each presents a different challenge from various points of view. |
| Replay Value | The replay value of Civilization IV itself is increased with the expansion (as if it even needed to be) and the scenarios themselves can all be played multiple times through (though they will get boring after a while.) |
| Multiplayer | Same as Civ IV |
| Summary | More fuel for the fire that is Civilization, this game will both hook you back onto the basic game of empire building, and present some interesting sidebars from history to play through as scenarios. A must buy for any Civ fans. |
| Score | 4.4/5.0 |
