Volvo shows off auto electronics
Wired News' coverage of the New York Auto Show focuses on a Volvo concept car called the Volvo Safety Concept Car (SCC). The car's electronics, meant to improve driver performance and safety, include a sensor system that finds the driver's eyes and adjusts the floor, seat, steering wheel, console and gear lever to fit. For night driving, the car uses a computer-controlled fiber optic headlight system that adjusts according to driving speed. Besides the obvious onboard emergency assistance, the car has a heartbeat sensor built into a remote keypad to let drivers know if anyone is in the car. The prototype vehicle also has rear-mounted cameras and a collision warning system.
