VoiceStream Said to be Pursuing Cingular Wireless
Apparently in a series of discussions, VoiceStream, a wireless cell phone provider that is owned by Deutsche Telekom AG, is reported to be pursuing a merger with Cingular Wireless. It is rumored that as part of the deal Cingular would be the controlling shareholder. Things could be sticky for Cingular, however. BellSouth Corporation and SBC Communications, Inc., telecommunications corporations that control "Baby Bells," jointly own Cingular Wireless, and both have the authority to nix the deal. Any merger would also have to pass the scrutiny of the F.C.C.
