New Vista Gateway systems launch alongside new OS

Irvine (CA) - Coinciding with today’s release of Microsoft’s new operating system, Gateway has launched a desktop and a notebook computer preinstalled with Windows Vista, which are available today from Gateway.

The DX430 desktop has a 14.1" WXGA TFT display and has a built-in 15-in-1 digital media reader, with an optional TV tuner and PVR functionality. It comes standard with an Intel Core 2 Duo dual-core processor and a 160 GB hard drive. Memory is available at 512 MB or 1024 MB. On the baseline model, a CD-RW/DVD drive and Windows Vista Home Basic are installed, while more expensive models include Home Premium and a DVD-RW drive. It also is built to let owners change the face plate to customize the look of the PC. It comes with a black face plate, with a tungsten and "brushed graphite" plate also available from Gateway for a separate cost.

The other new computer, the NX270S notebook, has a rugged construction with metal edges, a high-composite matte surface and a brushed aluminum palm rest. It also has a 14.1" WXGA TFT widescreen display and 512 MB of memory. The hard drive has a 60 GB capacity. a CD-RW/DVD drive is included, as is a 4-in-1 media bay.

Both come with the 32-bit version of Vista and built-in wireless networking, and have a 90-day trial of the Vista version of McAfee Internet Security Suite.

The DX430 is available in three main models, at $500, $850, and $1100, each with incremental upgrades over the less expensive versions. The NX270S retails for a starting price of $700.
