VideoRaid SCSI Disk Arrays From Medea

by - source: Tom's Hardware

DVD authoring and non-linear editing (NLE) can eat up massive amounts of disk space - especially if you intend to keep data safe by making use of redundancy. Medea, a company that targets jut such industries, just upped the ante for its VideoRaid products by increasing the capacity of its SCSI disk arrays. The new 2-drive VideoRaid SCSI product line now includes 80, 120, 160 and 200 GB models that sustain a minimum data transfer rate of 30 MB/second, which Medea says is enough performance to support MJPEG video or dual-stream, real-time DV NLE systems including the Matrox RT2500 and Pinnacle's DV500 Plus and Pro-ONE. VideoRaid SCSI attaches to any SCSI-equipped PC, Mac or SGI computer. The on-board RAID controller eliminates the need for disk striping software or configuring drive stripe sets. VideoRaid SCSI looks like a single big SCSI hard drive and, as your storage requirements increase, additional modules can be daisy-chained together for storage capacities of up to 3 TeraBytes (3,000 GB) on a single SCSI host adapter. The "sneaker-net" feature of the VideoRaid SCSI allows it to be moved between video workstations since the striping control is maintained with the unit and not on the host system. The 2-drive VideoRaid SCSI is available in 80 GB, 120 GB, 160 GB and 200 MB capacities with expected street prices of $899, $999, $1,299 and $1,499 respectively. VideoRaid SCSI includes a 3-year warranty, free technical support, and a 48-hour replacement program.
