Viacom demands YouTube to remove 100,000 videos

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Viacom has demanded that YouTube remove more than 100,000 videos of television shows and movies. The notice which was sent early this morning came after negotiations between the two companies broke down.

Viacom is a huge media conglomerate that owns popular stations like MTV, VH1 and Comedy Central. In addition, it has movie studios like Paramount and DreamWorks. The company contends that YouTube unfairly benefits from pirated clips and does not reimburse content creators.

YouTube has been furiously trying to broker distribution deals with movie studios and television networks. It’s already reached deals with NBC Universal and Universal Music Group. Interestingly enough, it also has an agreement with CBS which was spun off from Viacom.
