Via vows Intel lawsuit defense

Just days before the launch of its first microprocessor, Via Technologies announced it will contest an intellectual property lawsuit brought by chip-making giant Intel.

The suit is one of many pending legal actions between the two companies in connection with a 1998 licensing agreement that would have allowed Via to make Intel-compatible chipsets.

Via's low-cost Joshua processor, which will provide performance equivalent to Intel's Celeron processors running at 433 MHz, 466 MHz and 500 MHz, will be released this week.
