Via sketches chip strategy
Via Technologies is disclosing details of its marketing plans for the next few years, starting by fine-tuning its x86-based Cyrix III line of 500/667-MHz chips for sale to the low-end PC market, priced from $200 to $500, while readying the next-generation C5B for market. The C5B, based on 0.15-micron technology, will run at 600/733-MHz in desktops and mobiles. The 733/867-MHz C5C, based on a 0.13-micron process, will boast historically small, 5 mm square die size. Long-range plans include an integrated processor combining an x86-based core with the Matthew PC chip set.
