Via shows 650- and 667 MHz value chips
Via Technologies Inc. of Taiwan has introduced its two chips fastest chips yet, running at 650- and 667-MHz. The processors are based on 0.18-micron process technology and aimed at the low-cost PC, notebook and appliance markets. Both Via Cyrix III line of socket 370-compatible chips have 128-KB of L1 cache and a 100/133-MHz front side bus. In 1,000-unit quantities, they will sell for $55 and $60.
Via is scheduled to introduce its next-generation processor family early in 2001 to be manufactured using a sophisticated .15 micron process. Based on the Samuel II core, they will hit 1 GHz by the middle of the year according to the company.
