Via sets date for Joshua debut

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Taiwan-based Via Technologies will formally unveil its code-named Joshua processor February 22, company officials said.

The low-cost chip, designed to compete with Intel's Celeron processor, uses Socket 370, and will initially run at speeds of 433MHz and 466MHz, with clock speeds of 500MHz and above due later this year.

The Joshua - called the first Celeron clone because it will fit into the same circuit boards as Intel's processor - is based on Cyrix's Cayenne core.

Via bought Cyrix last year from National Semiconductor.
