Via roadshow seeks grass-roots market

Via Technologies is attempting to spread its low-cost message to US PC makers in person, having failed to convince a major OEM to integrate its alternative to the Celeron. A Via team is hoping that the personal touch will help as it promotes its Cyrix III chips and chipsets, especially the newly released 700MHz Cyrix III. The company has had most of its success in Asia and Europe and hopes that it can succeed in the US market by staying out of the processor race between Intel and Advanced Micro Devices. Via is reportedly readying chips that will approach speeds of 1GHz.
