Via and Micron fight Rambus with DDR rebate
Core-logic chipset designer Via Technologies Inc. has teamed with memory maker Micron Technology Inc. to subsidize DDR SDRAM purchases through a rebate program. This is Via's second promotion in weeks, both aimed at ramping demand for DDR before Rambus DRAM, also being rebated, can dominate the mainstream memory market.
As was the case in the previous rebate, Via is not talking about the program. Taipei's Economic Daily News, however, says Micron will sell 128MB DDR modules for about $50 each when purchased with a Via DDR chipset. The unsubsidized price is between $100 to $120.
