Verisign's .net loss
Verisign Inc. has agreed to give up control of the .org and .net domains in return for managing the .com domain at least through 2007. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Board still must approve the modification to the previous agreement. If authorized, the agreement will negate the need for Verisign to divest itself of the registry division. Competitors have complained that oversight of the domain name registry endows an unfair marketing advantage.
