VeriSign supports domain names in 350 languages
VeriSign, empowered by ICANN to register and administer the .com, .org. and .net domain names, has added domain name support for 180 more languages, bringing the total to more than 350. Though the multilingual domain-name program is not yet officially approved, raising the possibility that some domains registered may eventually be invalidated, hundreds of thousands of non-English domains have been registered since November. VeriSign says domain name options now cover the languages used by approximately 80 percent of the world's population. Languages covered include Arabic, Cherokee, Urdu, Old English, Old Icelandic, Neo-Aramaic, Inner Mongolian, Tamil, Bengali, Armenian, and Esperanto.
