Chicago (IL) - A hacker's claim that he gained access to all of Valve's internal files was played out too far, even though it appears he did hack a third-party site that deals with Valve, according to a 1UP story.

Yesterday, a near panic set in for customers of Valve's digital download service Steam, after someone posted screenshots of what appeared to be sensitive data from Valve's servers. The breach happened to be on a much smaller scale.

What the hacker found was access to a third-party site that deals with Valve's Cyber Cafe billing program, something that doesn't affect individual customers at all.

Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi told TG Daily, "The alleged hacker gained access to a third-party site that Valve uses to manage the commercial partners in its Cyber Café program. This Cyber Café billing system is not connected to Steam. We are working with law enforcement agencies on this matter."
