AMD Pokes at Intel With Valentine's Day Gifts

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

That Sandy B. is a heartbreaker.

Tech companies often send swag to journalists as part of their promotional efforts. Apparently AMD has been sending out some special items for Valentine's Day that poke at Intel's troubles with Sandy Bridge.

We didn't receive any of these items from AMD, but Cnet did and thankfully they blogged about them.

AMD sent an "I (heart) APU" ceramic mug that read:

Dear Dan,

I heard that Sandy B. broke your heart and wanted to let you know that I'm here for you. Oh, and I have a cousin from Llano, Texas I'd like to introduce you to soon--I think you two will really hit it off!

XOXO,

AMD Fusion APU

AMD also sent a box of chocolates. They weren't exactly shaped like processors, which would have been cool, but it's still nice to get gifts for Valentine's Day.

Would be awesome if Intel weren't spanking AMD's ass all over the shop. Having a dig at Fermi and Larrabee when the Radeon HD 5000 series ruled the roost is fair enough, but this is kinda laughable.

Roll on Bulldozer - let's hope AMD can close the gap to 2 years instead of lagging like they are.

I don't think it's fair to say that Intel are "spanking AMD's ass". Intel need to cut their prices by about 50% to get to the same performance / cost ratio AMD are at.

I think it's perfectly fair to say Intel are spanking AMD's ass. You really think AMD CPUs would be as cheap as they were if they didn't have such a massive performance deficit?

Yeah OK, Intel have always overcharged because 9 times in 10 they can because they've not had competition enough to warrant a price war.

And the Radeon 5000 series was hardly cheap before Fermi became competitive, so I really doubt AMD are selling CPUs at this price because they want to.

Let's see how much Bulldozer redresses the balance...

AMD's performance is amazing for the money. My 1090T out-performs most CPU's on the current market. Intel's best are better, but AMD's best are still very very good for the money.

putting the AMD and Intel price and performance to one side,
u got to admit that the cards message is pro, some thought must have been put into this, and fair play to them thinking of something that intel didnt,

if it was the other way round, do u think there would have been so much of a comment about it at all.
