Users, RIAA eye Napster alternatives
While waiting for the verdict in the Napster case, both file-sharers and the Recording Industry Association of America are looking at Gnutella, Freenet, OpenNap and other P2P systems. Some analysts say that P2P, in some form, will survive. A study by Xerox PARC, however, indicates that the music labels could eliminate most of the content that is currently being traded by prosecuting a relatively small number of individuals who provide the bulk of music files downloaded by other users.
