US may fund molecular, quantum computers
US legislators in charge of funds earmarked for pure research are considering the subsidy of a variety of next generation computer technologies. Concern that silicon-based computing is quickly approaching the limits of the technology to advance is contributing to a consensus in Congress in favor of using federal cash for research into molecular, chemical, quantum and optical devices that may emerge as the successor to current computer hardware.
